pc freezes at boot screen

HP s5100z, amd athlon le-1660, 2 gig of memory. when booting up pc, it freezes at the HPscreen. the only keyboard function accepted is f10[ setup]. when in setup it loads letter by letter. any help appreciated

 

This sounds like a job for a diagnostic tool like PC Doctor. I would be testing the motherboard on a fundamental level if the BIOS is not loading properly. It could be the CMOS RAM, or even the BIOS PROM. Most users do not have access to such tools unless they have invested in them.

Have you tried booting from a CD to test the board components using something like the Ultimate boot CD to rule out any things like DIMMs or the hard drive itself?

 

after replacing cmos battery and memory sticks. found 5 blowed capacitors. guess i found the prob:zzz
