So i naturally thought my hard drive is breaking down or something, then i tried messing around with the connectors (trying other ones etc.) now my pc doesn't seem to freeze up but it lags pretty bad, for example if i play an mp3 it sometimes repeats one seconds material three times etc. it still freezes up about every 3 seconds for like 1/3 of a second. So i downloaded "HDD Health" which shows your hard drives health and it shows it's at "77%(good)"
I heard it might actually be a power supply problem? Now i'm really confused. Please help :cry

I think it might be worth doing the HD manufacturer's HD diagnostic using the Long/Extended test. I've had a HD that passed the short test but had a few bad sectors that were causing the clicking; running the long test fixed it.

I scanned it with ES-Tool and it showed no errors, said it was working perfectly (did the extended scan). Then i scanned it with software i got from the majorgeeks website "HDD Scan" and i did the smart scan and it says that apparently there's a problem with the "Reallocation sector count" and the "Reallocation event count":

err i can't edit my last post anymore? :D
well anyway i found some info on wikipedia:
    Reallocated Sectors Count
    Lower
Count of reallocated sectors. When the hard drive finds a read/write/verification error, it marks this sector as "reallocated" and transfers data to a special reserved area (spare area). This process is also known as remapping, and "reallocated" sectors are called remaps. Unfortunately, on modern operating systems, such as Windows XP and onwards, "bad blocks" cannot be found while testing the surface, as this feature was removed. However, 3rd-party applications such as "HD Tune" and "CHIP SBIANCAMENTO" can reveal bad sectors across the entire surface, even on partitions that are hidden. Also, as the count of reallocated sectors increases, the read/write speed tends to decrease, unless the bad sectors are manually repositioned to a hidden partition, although the boot sector is always at the start of the disk, so if damage is in that area, the drive is only useful as a redundant backup drive. The raw value normally represents a count of the count of bad sectors that have been found and remapped. Thus, the higher the attribute value, the more sectors the drive has had to reallocate.

    and

    Reallocation Event Count
    Lower
Count of remap operations. The raw value of this attribute shows the total count of attempts to transfer data from reallocated sectors to a spare area. Both successful & unsuccessful attempts are counted.[20]

so my question would be... is there a way to manually relocate a sector? o_O

Any time you hear clicking from your hard drive, the stylus is tapping the disc. This is not a good thing!!! I would suggest you backup your data and personal files and prepare to get a new hard drive. ;)

actually i don't hear tapping anymore O_O. But it's still laggy.

I don't know much about the actual threshold values except what I've read here in the fifth post. It appears you are within normal limits with 20 reallocations out of a normal limit of 100.

The clicking sound that you here is it repeated clicking? I'm trying to remember but on the drive I was talking about earlier, my symptoms were that it was like the drive was turning on and off fairly often but not a mechanical scraping sound but more the controller was turning it on and off for no apparent reason. It was not repeated just every 30 seconds or so it was like it was powering up and down. It went on for about 3 months before I did a diagnostic and let it repair errors and it disappeared.

I don't know what to say. It wasn't a controller that ended up fixing my drive but the diagnostic. You already tried the Samsung diagnostic. If the drive is a few years old it is probably best to consider getting a replacement. All things mechanical have a lifespan and hard drives don't give a lot of warning before crashing.

Ok. Thanks guys, i really learned something from this :) Gonna get myself a new hard drive i suppose :p
