First off, I want to thank Majorgeeks for this very cool and very necessary site.

I followed the directions in the"READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide" and it seems to have done the trick. No more speech bubbles constantly popping up to warn me and urging me to buy this and that program. Also, "Live Safety Center" and "Online Security Guide" seem to no longer steel my browser startup page, or whatever it is they were doing (I'm not sure which nuisance actually did what). In addition to ridding me of these problems, the various scanners/removal programs also found a bunch of other stuff. Or so it seemed to my untrained eye.
However, during the bitdefender scan I noticed that one virus could neither be disinfected nor deleted. So now I worry that it's still in my computer somewhere waiting to do its thing. Hence, I'm attaching the various scan reports etc. in the hope that you can help me out in case I in fact still have a problem.

Once again, thanks for the much needed help,

    Arevald

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

You need to run CounterSpy again and this time do not ignore all the problems it finds. You must Quarantine or Delete what it finds. Attach a new log from CounterSpy. You can run it in normal boot mode.

Uninstall the below old versions of software:
    Java(TM) 6 Update 2

Now run this Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger. Do not confuse Windows Messenger with MSN Messenger because they are not the same. Windows Messenger is a frequent cause of popups.
Also uninstall the CounterSpy trial program since we are finished with it.

Run HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O2 - BHO: {538e3716-d95c-b9b9-e274-c544c17afe06} - {60efa71c-445c-472e-9b9b-c59d6173e835} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\cjiunvhe.dll
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {A95B2816-1D7E-4561-A202-68C0DE02353A} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\amuntcjm.dll (file missing)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {F9F3A2CA-31A7-4589-89B9-AD94E91C2249} - (no file)
    O3 - Toolbar: Security Toolbar - {11A69AE4-FBED-4832-A2BF-45AF82825583} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\amuntcjm.dll (file missing)
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [48512ce8] rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\system32\tnhndrya.dll",b
    O20 - AppInit_DLLs: C:\WINDOWS\system32\__c00DE3D6.dat
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: amuntcjm - amuntcjm.dll (file missing)

NOTE: HJT may popup an error about the AppInit_DLLs line. Ignore it and click OK to continue.

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixme.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it
double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Now download The Avenger by Swandog46, and save it to your Desktop.
    • Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    • Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    • Check the 'Input script manually' box.
    • Click on the magnifying glass icon.
    • Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it in the box that opens:
    • Now click the 'Done' button.
    • Click on the traffic light icon and OK the prompt.
    • You will be prompted to restart, OK the prompt and your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    • A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt
After reboot, now install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment

    Now run Ccleaner!

Now attach the below new logs and tell me how the above steps went.

    1. Avenger
    2. GetRunKey
    3. ShowNew
    4. HJT

Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    Thanks,

Followed the procedure, and AVG Antivirus no longer tells me that Downloader.conhook.hl is on my system (which it startet doing yesterday after I had finished the RUN ME FIRST...) In fact, I noticed, in the little piece of HJT log in your reply, the same "C:\WINDOWS\system32\__c00DE3D6.dat" file, that AVG referred to in its warning about conhook.hl.
The Counterspy log isn't completely correct because I ran Counterspy on my own yesterday upon discovering the conhook.hl and didn't save the log (I did remove the items this time though).
Nevertheless, I ran it again today as you told me in your reply. And again it found some items. Removed those. So the attached log is from this latest run. Hope I didn't mess anything up.

Things seem to be working properly again now. Thank you.

Your logs are clean. If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below
      • Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    2. If we used ComboFix, you can delete the ComboFix.exe file, C:\ComboFix folder, C:\QooBox folder, C:\WINDOWS\nircmd.exe, C:\combofix.txt and C:\ComboFix-quarantined-files.txt logs that was created.
    3. If we user SDFix you can delete all the SDFix related files and folders from your Desktop or whereever you installed it.
    4. If we used SmitFraudFix, you can delete all files and folders related to it now including the c:\rapport.txt log.
    5. If we used VundoFix, you can delete the VundoFix.exe file and the C:\VundoFix Backups folder and C:\vundofix.txt log that was created.
    6. If we had your run FixWareOut, you can delete the Fixwareout.exe file and the C:\fixwareout folder.
    7. If we had you run Avenger, you can delete all files related to Avenger now.
    8. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    9. You can delete the ShowNew.Zip and GetRunkey.Zip files and the files that you extracted from the ZIP files. You can also delete the C:\newfiles.txt and C:\runkeys.txt logs that were created
    10. If you are running Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • go back to step 8 of the READ & RUN ME to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    11. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
