Awritey people, im in need of some help!

1 week ago i received an antivirus pop which would not go away, by clicking on it would take me to payment methods, obviously i tried to ignore this but it was taken me off web pages and poping up EVERYWHERE! I tried to remove this by going into my control panel, add/remove programs but to no success. Couple days later when i turned my pc on the prompt screen came up stating that windows had to shut down. I tried running it through 'safe mode' and everyother option available to me but still no success.. Every move i made kept taken me back to the dreaded blue screen of death!!

I have run tests on the hardware, memory, quick test and complete tests and everything is passing... Im at a complete loss, the only other option i have is to phone dell but i am NOT entertaining paying for some 'impossible to understand' person to go through their check list

thanks for reading this, any response would be greatly accepted

    Hi

Which version of Windows are you using?

What is the BSOD error message code and text in full please as it will help narrow the cause down?

First of all tried to do a system restore to a date before the pop-ups started?

    Second, have you run CCleaner?

This sounds like a malware removal issue so you should check out the READ ME FIRST: Malware Removal Guide on how to try and remove this obvious malware anti-virus program.

I just had a similiar situation.

I'm still getting assistance from the advisors & awesome guys here on Majorgeeks support. I think I have/had a slew of malware. Still not at a green light for the laptop in question.

Anyway... what I did, to get back to a usable restore time period was follow a Microsoft Support Knowledge Base article.

Now mind you, I had absolutely no other choice but to go that route. I had the BSOD, could not boot from any "Safe Mode" option. Could not boot from "Last known good configuration". I too did all of the diagnostics and all passed, but still could not reboot.

I found that I had corrupted startup files, in my registry??? I don't know what it was but the KB worked for me & now I am trying to rid my computer of malware, adware, viruses or whatever infected my computer.

So... If you are in the same boat & you can't even boot up your computer, even in Safe Mode to follow the absolute precise instructions in the "MajorGeeks - Read Me first - Malware removal guide", then if you too get to the point in thinking that your only move now is to reformat & start fresh, try the KB article first. From Microsoft Support webpage - #KB307545.

Good Luck. But I am no techie, wait for a second opinion from here. But it did help me tremendously, and got rid of my BSOD.

Thing is, he/she cannot boot the machine in order to remove malware. That's why Halo was asking about the BSOD

I actually wasn't clear on that since the end user talked about running various tests I wasn't sure if he/she was in windows or not.
