what kind of ps2 pad? like a PLAYSTATION 2 dance pad or a ps2 touch pad (mouse touch pad thingy) if it's the playstation one i wouldn't doupt it if your converter is fried.

With the controller conected, look in the Device Manager for any question marks or exclamation points. They'd be under Other Devices or Sound, Video, and Game Controllers. If it's listed with a '?' or a '!', right click on it, choose Uninstall, and when that's done, remove the controller from the USB port and reboot the PC. After Windows is done loading to the desktop, plug back into the USB port, and let Windows reinstall it and all should be well! If you don't have the '?' or the '!', try looking under Sound, Video, Game Controllers and see if yours is listed. If it is, follow the same steps as above. If not, remove from the USB port, reboot, and plug it back in after Windows is done loading and it should pick it up and install it or at least ask for a driver. If not, try using Add New Hardware wizard in the Control Panel. If you've been plugging and unplugging from the USB ports often, you may have fried the adapter, or the controller, or the USB ports and/or all of the above... USB ports have live voltage running thru 'em, and plugging into and out of them can cause damage if you do it without properly shutting down the device or if you do it too fast. I've seen a motherboard destroyed by a kid plugging in his digital camera; it didn't register right away so he jiggled the connector. The next thing I knew, the PC had shut off w/o warning and it never turned on again. BEWARE the USB ;)

re-install the drivers for the ps2-usb converter.... if that doesn't work it's most likely fried and you'll need a new on.:major

Just put the driver disc in (or go to the adapter manufacturer's website to see if there are updated drivers) and reinstall the drivers. This should overwrite the old ones
Otherwise, go to your Start menu, click Run and type or copy and paste this in the box: devmgmt.msc

Then follow these directions to uninstall your gamepad adapter driver:
If you uninstall the adapter, you will need to reinstall the drivers.

Go into control panel and click game controller.... in there you will have a screen with button names and when you push a button on your controller the light for the corresponding button should light up without installation of drivers. if no lights light up your converter is toast. plain and simple.
