This problem is becoming more and more common.

Often when I press the on button, nothing happens i.e. no fan, no lights on the motherboard. If I then leave the PC for a period of time (betwen 1 and 10 days) and try again, it starts.

    Any ideas?

sounds like the motherboard might be on it's way out. do you have another powersupply you can put in there, just to rule that out? open up the case and make sure all the wiring is secure, and there's not alot of dust...make sure your power cord is not loose either.

it's also possible you have a problem with the power switch, locate the soft start pins that your switch connects to on the mother board and short them together with the tip of a screwdriver, if the machine comes to life every time you do this then you have a bad switch. Be careful not to short anything else out as you might do a lot of damage to something else.
