PC/on and off switch

Can a bad on and off switch cause the computer to shut down at times?
I have relplaced my power supply and fans. Computer is cooling normally now.
But my on and off switch is very touchy. I think it is going bad. At times it is hard to turn on my pc. The problem is I want to replace it myself. Gateway will not send you a switch. Any help would be appreciated.
Model 4016 Gateway desktop.

Can you take a side or front panel off of the computer case to see if it is possible to place a generic switch in there?

Most of them should be pretty generic.

It is a rectangle flat one. On the front case. So I am not sure if that one is right.

You just need a momentary contact normally open switch.

 

I have micro center and radio shack and best buy. They all don't carry gateway products they told me gateway does not let them.

 

It does not have to be a gateway switch, any generic momentary contact normally open switch will work.

If you can fit it to the case then it should be fine.
