Pc power up but bios wont kick in

Hello there,

I've recently encountered this problem with my one and half years old Pavilion a6450.is desktop. (specs page) It powers up normally, except with a loud fan noise and monitor has no signal. Bios controls fans speed as far as i know, so I'm assuming that the bios isn't kicking in and that explains fans spinning at max speed.

This problem started yesterday when i tried to power it up and the above happened, i simply turned it off and power it up again and it worked perfectly like nothing happened. Today i had to power it on and off about 10 times in order to get it to boot up normally.

sadly it's not under warranty anymore, so the only option i have is to fiddle with it myself, except I'm no expert when it comes to pc hardware. So any advice/tips would be really appreciated.

Have you try to reset the cmos? If not, remove the cmos battery or jumper in the board for 2 minutes also disconnect the cd drive, hard drive and floppy drive and try to boot it.

 

Well, I've updated the bios for my mobo and so far all is good. It boots on the first power on and much faster than before.

Looks like it was a simple bios conflict, hopefully things are gonna stay this way.

 

Have you assessed your temps, firstly within BIOS (Hardware Monitoring is the normal tab) and then within the OS?

The fans ramping up at high could mean there are some heat issues, try using EVEREST Free Edition 2.20 and assess the temps when in widows.

During the Power-on self-test (POST) the fans can and will burst at high speeds and then scale back being controlled by BIOS. This is quite normal with many PCs as long as it scales back.
