Have a PC with a gigabyte GA-7VAXP motherboard and once I power it up it just starts rebooting. Sometimes it gets to the Windows Desktop and other times it just reboots after the Windows XP screen. It is never happens at the same point during the consistent reboot cycle. Consistently reboots but not at the same stage.

Is there ant way to slow down the screens that show during startup or boot-up. There are things getting displayed but they scroll so fast I can't read them. Is there possibly some utility I can get to boot off the CD ROM that I can check out possible causes?

    Thanks

Tap F8 key and boot into safe mode. Turn off reboot on errors.
    1. Right click on Computer icon and select Properties.
    2. Click the Advanced tab then Settings under Startup and Recovery.
    3. Uncheck/untick Automatically restart in the System Failure section.

Plodr - thanks for the reply. Once I get in how do I find out what the errors are that are causing it to continuously reboot. Again, interested in any recommendations you might have.

    Thanks,

    Dave

You will see the error on the Blue Screen of Death.
You don't have to do a thing except write down what appears on the screen when the computer stops.

Now what? Must be my keyboard is not being recognized. My original one is a USB version, so I figured maybe it's not recognizing. So found one of those PS2 to USB adapters - still not recognizing the keyboard so I can't hit F8 to go in to Safe Mode.

Could this be a driver issue? If so, is there any way to install a driver from CD? Stumped again!

    Thanks

If you can get into BIOS make sure legacy USB is enabled.

Might be screwed as I can't get any keys from keyboard to be recognized.

Regarding the PS2 to USB adapter - would or could these be keyboard manufacturer specific?

Is there any way to create a boot disk that could get you in to your BIOS?

    Thanks

    Use a PS/2 keyboard.
You won't find any new but you may be able to pick up a used keyboard at a thrift shop. Perhaps a friend has an old PS/2 you can borrow.

OK - got a used PS2 style KB for $3 and set the BIOS so it would not reboot on error. Now I get through the Windows XP screen and get to the Users screen. Tried several times and sometimes it reboots right after user screen pops up or other times I can click on auger and it starts to pull up the user account and it reboots? Now what? Never had one so difficult.

    Plodr thanks for your patience.

Boot into safe mode, F8 and set the computer to not reboot on errors. Sounds like you can not get windows to load in normal mode that's why you need to try it in safe mode.
