    HP Model: P7-1517cb, Product #: H2N50AA#ABA
Auto restarts regardless of Normal or Safe mode after shutdown selected on PC.
    Reinstalled Win8.1 and all updates
    Flashed BIOS
    Ran SFC /scannow, no problems
    Hibernate is off
    Ran shutdown /f

Anyone have any suggestions as to a cure?

Had a Dell doing that, I think it was a wake setting in BIOS, might look in there, for wake on lan, last power state settings, ect.

Thanks for the reply. I disabled everything I could find concerning the LAN, and I still have the problem.

    Check the Power scheme settings.

Already tried multiple settings including never. Same results.

Under Shut Down when you press the Power button never is not an option.

    Open Control Panel, then Power.
In the left column select Choose what the power button does.
    You'll see this
    power_button.jpg

You posted power plan settings not the setting you have for the power button.

You misunderstand. I'm not using the power button. I'm using the software option to shut the PC down, not the power button. It restarts instead. That's the problem.

Clearly the software is NOT working.
    Use the power button.

Thank you, but that does not solve the problem of safely closing everything before shutdown. Gotta be a hardware issue, just can't find it.

When I press the power button if something is running, a blurb appears on the screen. I can then choose to close it or wait. I wait and the computer powers down when it is closed naturally.

Thank you. When I press the power button with a program running, the PC reboots.

Please read post #10 again then post a screenshot of your Power button settings like I did.

Thanks for the suggestions. The owner decided he wanted his PC returned as he has had the problem for some time. He did not fully inform me of this. He said he has dealt with it in the past and he will deal with it now.

You can close this this request.

    Again, thank you very much.
