After a new mobo installation, as mentioned in a previous thread, why does PC restart, instead of my selected shutdown?

The microsoft link might solve your problem, but if not ----
If you look in my computer, right click manage, then click system tools, event viewer, applications, and look for wnindows error logs, you can post these errors here, and it would help us to wittle down .

Other discussions and remedies tried here.

    Two things to do.

First go into the bios and make sure that the ACPI or APM settings match those in the Windows control panel for power management.

Second try the windows shutdown troubleshooter
    start>help&support>fixing a problem>troubleshooting problems
from the list of troubleshooters select startup/shutdown.

If this does not help you may have a file with settings left over from the previous board. Post again and we will try to clear them out.

    Posted screenshot of errors here:

Have unchecked the "Automatically restart under System failure".

I worryingly noticed in one of the threads, it stated that the PSU may noy be compatible with the mobo, might that be my case?

Hot Damm! And I thought REAL SEX came from REAL NETWORKS.

    :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

I reviewed our last discussion and didn't find details of either your power supply or motherboard so can't yet comment on the allegation.

Try downloading Everest and posting the report .txt file, its in the MG most wanted section.

Oh and what happened with the positions Baklogic and I suggested??????????????????????????????????

It see that you have tried the first part of microsofts fix - have you had the Roxio Easy CD Creator 5.0 or Direct CD 5.0 program installed, at any time, on your computer ?
For some reason your screenshot of errors must have been XXX rated, - have you a cleaner version that we might be able to read- type out, the different errors, if necessary.- Otherwise as Studiot suggested Everest might help us.

Never had Roxio Easy CD Creator 5.0 or Direct CD 5.0, as this is a new mobo with new XP installation.

New mobo is not that in sig (thats another ongoing thread): Asrock P4VM890, and PSU is ADT-400 (400W max output).

Event 1517, described by Microsoft, - and happens when registry is open, when XP is shutting down.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/810616#appliesto
If you have been setting/working up in the registry, did you close all open items - if not go to the registry , and close all items down to just show computer, and no sub divisions.- then try restart again.

    Thanks, successfully shutdown.
    I did re-check the Start-Up & Recovery > Settings > System Failure > Automatic Failure.
Strange, i did that with the registry (to disable XP balloons), after this post!!!
