PC Slow and Freezes

    Hello:

My computer has been freezing a lot. It has happened a lot when I am using Skype, but I think it is being caused by something else. I had QQ (china) installed, but have since removed that and installed the International version.

Also, it takes a long time to start up.

Another thing. Sometimes when I am working, Windows Explorer will freeze and I must restart it. Sometimes this happens multiple times before I can use it again.

Could you check things over for me?

    Thanks!

I have made another post - PC Freezes and Slow (2)

That is where the RootRepel and MGtools are.

Also, RootRepel crashed, so I attached the crash log.

All posts related to your current problem should be in one thread!! Your other thread will be merged back to this one so this message and your last one will seem out of order.

The main reason for your problem is likely the below and not malware.
You cannot properly run Windows Vista with so little free memory. You need to find out what you are wasting more than 2.7 GB of memory on. Does your graphics card have its own memory or is it stealing system memory.

Note: Using Daniel @ Home as your user account name was not a very good idea as sooner or later it will cause you a problem with some program, especially the potential issues it may cause for DOS like (command prompt type) programs.

Your McAfee program appears to be broken, I suggest that you uninstall it and then reboot. See how your PC is performing without it installed.

Are there any programs or such that I can see what is using my memory?

I know I can see the task manager, but that does not give me a whole picture

Try this: Process Explorer which much better the Task Manager.

But you still need to find out if any system memory is being used for your other hardware (like your graphics card)

Also is 3 GB of memory what you really have installed?

My PC came with 3 GB RAM yes.

Attached is a save file from Process Explorer.

So, I was using the Process Explorer and when my PC began to act up and slow down I was able to see what caused it (MsMpEng.exe). I did a little reserarching and found it linked to my Windows Defender and Windows Antispyware (in my services). I disabled Antispyware from services.msc, and it sped up almost immediatley. I have since disabled Windows Defender from the Windows Defender program itself as well.

But, I again tried to run RootRepel and my memory usage went from 1.5 GB to 2.7 GB, and the program stalled and froze.

    I deleted RootRepel.

The Process Explorer log was not really of any use since you did not configure it to show memory use nor to show image path info for the processes.

You should attempt to figure out why this is happening. This should not be using that much memory. You may have some internal Windows issues. Since your logs were clean, you should consider posting in the Software Forum. Also you may wish to research Windows Defender and high memory use or high CPU usage.
