well, the only 17in Macbook is the top end Macbook Pro, weighing in at 2800 bucks, which is probably triple the price of that Windows machine. Will it be faster? Oh heck yeah. You need to specify a range, because with Macbooks, you are limited to certain hardware.

    2.5GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    2GB memory
    250GB hard drive
    Double-layer SuperDrive
NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT with 512MB
    Ships: Within 24 hours

    $2,799.00

Can you tell me why it would be faster? And what difference does the FSB really make?

what do you use a laptop for?

if you are a computer gamer- you may have more luck with PC.
IF you just use word, excel, and power point- PC orks fine for that.
If you just surf the internet looking for "how to make mead" than a PC does that.

can a mac do all of the above? sure. but if thats all you want than why spend more money on it.

macs do have advantages. so do PCs. it as Adrynalyne said in another post, it comes down to prefrence.

are you artiscall inclined- do you do photo shoots/editing as hobbies- home movies, and "artsy" stuff? if so the mac might be better of the two.

you can also look for a forum called mac rumors for some additional input.

I have a PC, im more or less convinced to get a mac also.. for the experence, and also because I do want to make good use of the ILive stuff as a hobby.

    1) what do you want to do with it?
    2) do you have access to macs you can use without buying them?
~ this is important i think- that you get expierence using it, because it is a big "culture shock"
    3) when do you need a computer- do you need it tommorow, or can you save up some over the summer?

Without going into great technical detail, the Turion is a much slower cpu, speed for speed than the Core 2 Duo. That said, this one is 300mhz faster than the PC one you posted. FSB makes a difference, but not as much as CPU speed.
