Try holding the power button for 8 seconds or so. Some computers that go into standby, or are powered off incorrectly need to do this to turn it on. Found this out the hard way years ago. If that fails, let me know what computer is it and we will dig up an answer.

Then tell us exactly what does happen. Any beep codes? Does the option to get into the bios screen come up ? Anything lite up on the motherboard?

    Got a spare power supply?
Is it plugged directly into a wall socket? If in a surge protector, plug it into the wall and try again ....(check the circuit breakers?)

and the power bar isnt a surge protector

If all the other devices are working in that surge protector (and it should be that not a power strip..) then you'll have to open the case and remove the power connections (take a picture or a diagram if you are afraid you'll forget where they go) and take out the power supply ...see what the wattage is and get one atleast if not more that the old one.

One last thing, does it smell?

If it smells alittle like burnt leather ....get a new one.
    Get a new one anyway.

    AND a surge protector!!

Then it is likely that without a surge protector, it took out the motherboard as well.
