PCI-E slot question

Hi all, this is gonna be a really stupid question, i have googled it but i just want to make sure before i make my purchase...
Ive just bought a M5A99X EVO motherboard and i want to replace my really really old out dated sound card, The new sound card i want to get is a Creative Sound Blaster Recon3D Fatal1ty but it says it fits in a PCI Express 1x slot (which i believe is the smallest slot on my motherboard which has 2 of them...) problem been my graphic card covers one of the slots and the other one is only just accessible but i dont think the sound card would fit in it still... will it go in the larger PCI Express 16x slot (My motherboard only has 1 PCI Express 16x slot and 2 Graphic card slots) Google says a PCI Express 1x card will go in a larger slot but not vice versa for obvious reasons... i just want to know that will work for this sound card as i dont want to waste £70.. i know its a stupid question but i really really have no idea, im sure it comes across as that :-o

 

Yes the X1 cards will fit in the X16 and work.

But unless I have the wrong motherboard ect. your board has 3 X16 slots and is Tri-SLI capable so you can move your video card to one of the lower 2 slots and put your sound card in the X1 slot above it.

I've heard reports of some motherboards not wanting to boot without a video card in the first pci-E slot but haven't experienced it.

 

Yeah thats right, i wasnt sure if the card slots were PCI-E 16x aswell... thanks anyway i can buy my sound card now =)
