PCI-express 2.0 Question/problem

Hello everyone,

I was planning to upgrade my 8800gt card to a 9800gtx+ Card (http://www.nvidia.com/object/product_geforce_9800_gtx_plus_us.html). But I was just wondering if that card with PCI-e 2.0 would work on my motherboard, which has PCI-e 1.0.

Thank you, got it in my computer and is running perfectly, only had to upgrade my UPS. My old one only had 1 PCI-e powerplug, and this card needed 2 .

I know this has nothing to do with hardware, but as this topic is still open, I might abuse it while it is. Does anyone perhaps know if the latest drivers from nvidia (GeForce Release 180 WHQL) for the 9800gtx+ are bugged or something? Everytime I install the drivers with version 180.48, everything works fine until I reboot. I get a blue screen with some text on it and my pc restarts again. I booted it under safe mode and deleted the drivers and everything worked fine again.

 

You're better off posting in the drivers section, have you tried the 178.08's . Newer is not always better, did your drivers on the CD not work either?

 

Yes, the CD did work and had version 177.79 on it, but I was experiencing some problems in CoD5 (certain objects turning yellow) so wanted to get the latest drivers for my graphics card. I'll try 178.08 then

 

I hope it works but since I don't game I'd better bow out of here.

 

nVidia provides the reference drivers, but I've had better luck downloading the latest drivers from the video card OEM. It seems that some manufacturers tweak their boards, for performance reasons but occasionally the tweaking is too close to the line to use the latest reference drivers.
