PCI FireWire IEEE 1394 3+1 Port Card install?

I have a Compaq Presario CQ50-209WM Notebook and i need to be able to connect a DV Cable into it from my Canon Camcorder. Is it possible to install a "PCI FireWire IEEE1394 3+1 Port Card" in it? Do i have the wrong card? Can i install it externally and connect to USB Port? I also have a Sony VAIO, would it be possible to install it into that?

 

Yeah you can put a fire wire card in there,check you have a free 'express card' slot in each notebook then purchase one of these.

I've heard of USB to fire wire black boxes but I've never seen one as there are much easier ways around the same problem,I had a quick look around out of interest and came up blank.

My apologies if your notebook is older you may have a PCMCIA card slot in which case you will need one of these or similar.
