    OK, I'm new and have 2 questions. I have an eMachines T1150 1.3ghz 256mb ram,onboard 32mb Intel extreme graphics w/3D accelerator,LM810E motherboard, socket 370.
    1) can I switch the celeron for a pentium 3, and will there be any problems with it?
    2) Are PCI graphics cards better than the onboard graphics I have, The recommended card on eMachines site is the nVidia Mx400 64mb DDR PCI Graphic Card for 70 bucks, But I found an ATI Radeon 256mb PCI card for $100 at a local dealer. Any suggestions?

socket 370 only went up to 1.4ghz. that 100 mhz is not going to even be noticable.
any pci video card will be better then the intel xtreame crap thats onboard.

i would upgrade the video card. if that doesnt satisfy you then think about buying a new pc.

Thanks for the reply, the reason I was thinking of changing the processor to a pentium 3 is because I read that the FSB on the celeron is only 66mhz but the pentium 3 is up to 133 mhz which should be better for gaming and video editing. Am I right , and would the difference be worth it?
    Thanks

the front side bus would make little difference. the biggest improvement would be upgrading your video card. and its way cheaper then a new chip.

Agreed. A 1.4 upgrades are going to be barely noticeable. What you need to look for is bottlenecks. If you upgrade certain areas, will it be bottlenecked elsewhere? This is a bit tough to figure, but if you look, you will see each new generation board has faster fsb, support for bigger hard drives, more ram, video cards now with as much ram as you have on your machine and so on.

As Silenze said, best bang for your buck is a video card IF that has a AGP slot. In most cases onboard video is junk and done to save money. Any video card beginning with the brand Intel is junk. Celeron also uses memory on your machine for the computer chip, so avoid that next time.

Thanks for all the advice, I'm just trying to see how far I can push my pc before spending a lot of money on a new one. I don't have an AGP slot, But I did a performance check and I'm overclocking a little, should be 1.3ghz 100mhz FSB, but I'm running at 1.33 and 102. Not much but it's a lot faster than the last time I checked. Thanks again.

No AGP? Selection is limited on pci cards, its a waste of money. Another 256 megs would be nice as well. Bottom line, new video card thats bottlenecked by the PCI slot and dated and lots of memory really not being put to great use. If you can, I would use it as a glorified typewriter and upgrade.
