  1. MegaMan2OO6

    MegaMan2OO6 Private E-2

    Symptoms:

1 - Internet explorer redirects every page to PCPrivacyCleaner website or other bogus Antivirus websites.

2 - Can't open Mozilla Firefox. (Later I realized I could open by renaming the file to fire-fox.exe).

3 - Desktop background was basic grey, unable to use my own pictures.

4 - Unable to access majorgeeks.com, support.microsoft.com, etc. from Internet Explorer (redirected to a fake live.com search with links to more bogus websites). In Safari, it simply said that it couldn't connect to the server for these websites.

    What I tried:

1 - Ran Norton Antivirus - it found a couple things, but apparently I don't have a log of what they are.

2 - Ran SpySweeper - it found a couple things as well, but I have since uninstalled it, so that's not much help either.

3 - Realized I should have gone to majorgeeks.com first, and completed all steps in the READ ME FIRST thread. I didn't do everything in the proper order b/c of downloading issues, but I'll describe the order I did things and a couple issues I had:

    a) Ran SuperAntiSpyware. At first it blue-screened, so I unchecked the boxes as instructed, then it ran. Log attached.
    b) Ran combofix. Log attached.
    c) Ran Spybot. At first I couldn't install it, but I renamed the file per the combofix instructions (spy-bot, etc.) and it ran okay.
    d) Ran MWB. Same issue with having to rename.
    e) Ran MGTools. Log attached.

    RESULT:
It looks like most things are okay now. No problems connecting to any websites in programs other than IE. Desktop is back to normal. No more redirects to bogus websites. Can open Firefox, etc. without issues.

However, I'm having trouble connecting to my Outlook server for work as well as the internet when I am logged in via our offsite procedure, and I'm concerned that it is related to the issues I've been having here or perhaps something I've done in the removal process.

Please help. Thanks in advance. :)

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

You need to download and use MGtools.exe as given in the READ & RUN ME. I'm not sure where you got your copy from but you are way out of date which means you did not get it from the READ & RUN ME. At least not recently. After running the proper version, attach a new MGlogs.zip file so we can continue with your malware removal.
