Having problems opening pdf's in IE6. They do open in FireFox. Do not want a debate about the two browsers as I need both! Unable to isolate problem as I've tried following Adobe help "PDF pages do not appear in web browsers...

Using Adobe Reader 7.07 on XP sp2 machine w/ IE 6.0.2

Have uninstalled, reinstalled Reader Versions 6 & 7, problem follows.

Error message is "There was an error opening this document. This file cannot be found."

I can manually open a stored file within IE. Reader works fine in FireFox as previously mentioned. Reader works fine outside of browser.

    Thanks for the help.

If tunered's suggestion does not work, I suggest you download CCleaner and run it. If you're not familiar with it, they've got a demo feature on their site to familiarize new users with it. And note that the Standard version download file includes Yahoo toolbar (Adobe Reader does, too, right?), but you can simply avoid installing it by unchecking a box during installation.

Might be a good idea to uninstall Adobe Reader first, run CCleaner, then install Reader again.

CCleaner is available on Majorgeeks! Although, if you wish to avoid the Yahoo Toolbar, you can get a "slim" build which is english only, and does not include the toolbar from usafveteran's link. Check for a 'Other Builds' link.

You never mentioned whether or not you installed a new version of Adobe or not. If you did and didn't remove your old version, that could be your problem. For some reason, Adobe will not work properly with an older version on the machine at the same time a new one is there. Something causes a conflict. I ran into this a long time ago. Maybe that is your problem.

Thanks everybody for the suggestions. It was necessary to uninstall Adobe Reader AND THEN run CCleaner, in that order. Reinstalled Adobe 7.0.7 and everything is fine.

    Very grateful for the help!

Something to look at is at www.download.com Foxit Reader is a touch over 1 meg download and, at least so far, does everything Adobe does, for me anyway, and does not install. Unzip, stick it where ya want and run it. Good luck.:)

This is a great program, and I also use this, BUT, make sure you link to MG for particular software. As in foxit: http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4763
