Peachtree Accounting 2005

I was working in Peachtree and a we threw a breaker in the office. I am now getting a message that says "Unable to determine security privelages. Please retry later. This is probably due to another user temporarily blocking access to critical files" whenever I open peachtree. Do i need to just give it time?

I am the only one that uses the program here.

I know you are not going to like this answer, but, from what I gather, that error, is not with you not being able to log in. But, that you have a damaged database within peachtree. Which either you need to restore from backup, or you need to have someone repair the database, which is not cheap.

Unable to Determine Security Privileges

I am receiving the error message “Unable to Determine Security Privileges. Please retry later.” when attempting to open my company, how do I resolve this?
Answer
When this error is received, it is normally caused by the Peachtree program being terminated abnormally (such as lockups/crashes) or exiting the Peachtree program improperly.

If this is a network environment, reboot all workstations including the server/main computer where your company data files actually reside. Before rebooting, go to each computer and end task on w32mkde.exe if it is running in the background. After rebooting try opening your company in Peachtree, if you receive the same error, you will need to restore your last backup prior to receiving the error.

Restore a backup of your company data files made prior to the error.

NOTE: The following instructions are for restoring a backup made through Peachtree. If you are backing up using a third party program, you will need to refer to that program’s documentation for restoring a backup.

1. Start Peachtree Accounting.
2. From the main Peachtree menu, Select File then select New Company. You will be presented with the “New Company Setup” Wizard. Enter a company name and then keep selecting NEXT through all the windows. It is not necessary to fill in any other information; we are just creating an empty company to receive the backup files.
3. Once the New Company Set up is complete, close the Setup Checklist and Click OK on the informational message that appears.
4. Select File then select Restore from the main Peachtree menu.
5. Browse to find your most recent back up file. By default it will be located in the original company folder on the hard drive and will have the extension .PTB. This will usually be in the PEACHW folder,(if you are using Release 2004 or higher, the default directory would be located in the Program Files\Peachtree\ then the Company folder), and your company folder will be an abbreviated, 8 character name similar to the name of your company. If your backup was made to a Floppy, Zip drive, or CD-R/CD-RW , place the media in that drive and browse to select the backup file.
6. Select your .PTB (Peachtree Backup) to restore by clicking once on the backup file and then click Open. Click OK to the warning message that appears.
7. Your data will now restore.
