    Power lines down everywhere.

We got hit with a ice storm. There are over 100 power lines down just near me.

I have been listening to the Fire,EMS feeds all night long.If you do not need to go any where don't risk your life.

Do not go near down lines.

    Call and report it.

My power keeps blinking off and on.

Ice storm in one part of USA and Firestorm in other. wow.... how do your local govs deal with this in aftermath, say 3-6 months after the breaking news of these events? are you part way back to normality, are buldings rebuilt or repaired or is it just forgotten as the news cycle has past?

In my part of PA, in 2011 after a snowstorm on Oct. 31 with the leaves still on the trees causing trees to crash and hit power lines and transformers, we were without power for 8 1/2 days. I think 275 transformers had to be replaced.
One of our neighbors pointed out a transformer to the many crews in the area (from lots of different states) late on day 8. Apparently that particular transformer was not on any electrical map!
Once they replaced that and another on the same line, we had power restored in a few hours.

This past Thursday we ended up with 8" of snow followed by sleet, freezing rain and rain. There were a few power outages not caused by ice but by trees crashing on lines and transformers - again.

Most of the schools let out around noon and the roads weren't properly treated. Elementary school children were stranded in buses for hours. On the 5:30pm news one report was of 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders on a bus since 11:45am! The road was narrow, there were accidents so it was gridlock. I don't know how much longer the children had to sit on the school bus.
They interviewed a woman who was trying to get home from work on a major road. She had been in her car for more than 8 hours and it didn't look like she was going anywhere.
