    hello there!

i just ordered a new setup and was wondering what the overclocking potential is of the 550 pentium 3.4E processor is? if anyone has had any luck getting some good speeds out of them or any disaster stories trying to run the heck out of them.
    my system specs are:

    ASUS P5GD1 MOBO
    P4/3.4 GHz 800M LGA775 550
    RADEON RX600PRO-256 PCIE
    DDRAM 2x512MB|PDP 64x64 PC3200
    2 X MAXTOR 6Y080M0 SATA 80 gig

i have heard good and bad things about the pdp ram but i thought i would give it a try.....there have been no reviews that i could find on the P5GD1 mobo either :( . as far as the RX600 pro, i am aware the XT is better :) . and hopefully raiding the two maxtor HD's will be fast, but i can just imagine the pain they are going to be setting up SATA in raid.

    thanx.

    old system:

    P4P800S
    512MB shikatronics ram
    radeon 9200
    80 gig maxtor
    p4 2.8E OCed =>3.3

unfortunatly, not every system overclocks the same,

    some does EXTREMELY well...some don't!!

indeed the xt is faster than the pro, and raiding will give you "some" improvement over a 1 drive setup

you'll have to try and find the best settings out of your system!!

    ***Update from the frontline***

allright i've had the system for about a month now, the PDP patriot RAM would not POST at all in this system(tried setting timings really looose, still no good) so i ditched that and bought 1.5Gigs of corsair VS, temperatures are really low 30c - processor 30c-MOBO, i think this is due to the temperature of my house 17c(can't afford heat, spent too much on computer). i tried OCing and all i could get out of it was 3.6GHZ stable, after that it would lock up, tried upping the voltage and no good.....made sure the mem stayed at 400MHZ, and nothing would work....

Conclusion: i know there are many factors that may be contributing to me not being able to OC worth crap, but i think it's the P5GD1 MOBO, it's one of the cheapest socket T MOBO's asus makes(besides P5P800)...my old system which had corsair VS ram OC'ed nicely from 2.8 to 3.4 fine....

NEAT FEATURE OF P5GD1: when you flash the bios for this MOBO it unlocks the frequency multiplier!!! but it only allows you to lower it, enabling you to increase FSB while keeping same core frequency....kinda neat

    good news!!!!

i don't know if anyone is reading this post at all but i wanted to update it just in case.....

the reason i was not able to OC past 3.6 was that i was forgetting to set the ram to 400MHZ...

i overclocked this system today 3.968GHz and it was running well, processor temp. went up to 36c and mobo stayed the same....i also added a 40mm fan on the NB...
