Recently my Pentium 4 screen hangs for about 5-10mins before windows screen loads. This has began out of nowhere and used to only take seconds. Any suggestions?

Once you get into msconfig what do you do to fix the bootup hanging issue ?
    I'm having the same problem.

If that image is from your pc you may well have a virus.

The nwiz.exe process is usually a sign that your computer has been infected with the Gaobot or Agobot.iq viruses/trojans. However if you may have an Nvidia graphics card, part of the nvidia drivers software will also run a process with this name.

I recommend both St Nobody and Johnny head over to the malware forum and run through the basic checks, rather than messing with msconfig.

    Thanks foot loose!!!
I unchecked several items in the startup and that seemed to fix the problem.

In his original post, he said he has a nVidia graphics card.

I also have a nVidia graphics card and I have nwiz in my Startup list. In my case, I don't think I'd want to disable it. I use dual monitors and use some features in nVidia's nView Desktop Manager software, and I believe I'd lose some functionality if I disable nwiz.

But, in St.Nobody's case, he may get along fine with it disabled. As stated at http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/processlibrary/nwiz/ , "Disabling or enabling it is down to user preference."

But, as you indicate, nwiz.exe can be used to hide a virus. From the aforementioned reference: " Determining whether nwiz.exe is a virus or a legitimate Windows process depends on the directory location it executes or runs from."

I think we have a classic tangled thread here, and the reason why posters should start their own thead, not tag on to someones else's.

Msconfig is a diagnostic tool, which is why it has a 'normal mode' to return to once you have diagnosed and fixed the problem.
Msconfig is not a repair tool you must fix the problem elsewhere.

If you run normally with msconfig set to 'selective startup' there is a conflict within the registry between the msconfig settings and the 'run' settings. Sooner or later this will lead to grief.

We have been over this in many threads.
