pentium 4 vs Pentium D

In an office environment with users running programs such as Lotus Notes, Office, Internet which processor is best?

Pentium 4 640 w/HT 3.2 gHz
Pentium D 830 3.0 gHz

For those applications, the better processor would probably be the dual core. Either one would probably do just fine, but the dual core processor would perform a little better when switching between multiple applications.

 

it really matters what mobo and chipset you use. according to intel (http://indigo.intel.com/compare_cpu/showchart.aspx?mmID=143,8765,8764,103,5341,5724,5891,102,104&familyID=10&culture=en-US, the two procs only share one chipset. I would suggest the dual core cpu because it uses newer chipsets, but as mentioned earlier, either cpu will do.
