I just did a fresh install of WinXP. Of course, Windows Messenger is going haywire with all kinds of stoooopidity. How do I permanently shut the thing off? I did it before but I cannot remember how.

Believe me - I will be thankful for any help.

    1. click start, all program, open set program access and default which should be on top near window update. click add/remove window components. uncheck windows messager then click next.
    2. go to services under admin tools, change messenger to disable.

but first, I open window messenger and click tool then preference and uncheck load window messenger at start up, etc.

the messenger service in Windows has nothing to do with MSN messenger but it is still a good idea to disable it.

Ok, here ya go. How do disable Windows Messenger in WinXP:

    Start
    Control Panel
    Administrative Tools
    Services
    Highlight Messenger
    right click
    Properties.

Then choose 'Diasabled' from the drop down list, then click apply, then ok. If the service is started you will need to click the box that says 'Stop' before it can be disabled.
