I am trying to clean up my wife's laptop. I have Avast installed and running, Malware Pro which scans daily, and run CCLeaner, SpyBot, and SuperArnitSpyware somewhat regulalry - keep getting trojans and tracking cookies. I followed your "Win 7 Malware Removal/Cleaning Procedure" for 64-bit systems. and have attached logs - please help! Thanks

Re-scan with HitmanPro and remove everything it finds.

Reboot and re-scan with Hitman and attach the new logs.

Thanks - I did what you said and here are three logs -
    first log = after scan
second log = after removing infected items
third log = after reboot and rerunning program

Thanks for all your help, I am grateful to you!

    Hi Again

I wanted to wait a couple of days and let my wife use her computer before I responded to you...and she reports her computer is running well again. I also ran Avast, SpyBot, Malware, and SuperAntiSpyware and this time they all came up "clean." So it would appear that we've solved it.

So it occurs to me that by sending my logs to you and getting your feedback, I am still only at step 4 of the "Windows 7 Malware Removal/Cleaning" process that Major Geeks has posted. Should I now proceed to enable UAC and then toggle system restore?? Please advise.

Thanks again for all your help!
    Jussi

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. You can uninstall RogueKiller and HitManPro.
    2. Go back to step 6 oof the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista or Win 7, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    7. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

Malware removal from a National Chain = $149
Malware removal from MajorGeeks = $0

Thanks so much - one last question...the computer is running Windows 7 and just using the Windows firewall - I noticed on your discussion of firewalls there was scathing reviews of XP firewall...but no discussion on the adequacy of Windows 7 - is Windows 7 firewall adequate, or should I consider Comodo?
you guys are the best help on the internet - thank you very very much.

    Win7 firewall is adequate.

And you are most welcome. Safe surfing. :)
