I am new to Vista because it came with my new laptop. The hard disk is already mostly gone bad. I can still log on. I can not do a formal back up because of a disk corruption. I have saved what I need to. Sorry long story. So I need a recommendation on how to send my bad hard disk back to the manufacturer. Should I run an eraser, wipe, destroyer,etc...? If so which one? Or should I just send it back?

    Hi

Personally I would run a eraser app on the drive to send it back as it may still have personal data on it and if they are changing the drive for a new one for you then its likely they may just scrape the old.

this will work http://www.majorgeeks.com/Dariks_Boot_and_Nuke_d4596.html unless it hits hardware faults on the platters of the drive or the read heads are not working correctly, but other software methods will hit same issues as well.

So you think I should just wipe the hard disk not do the overwrite file by file?
