Personal Firewall problem - outgoing connection

I keep getting a message popping up from my Trend Micro software that states:

"Personal Firewall has detected an outgoing connection that meets specified warning conditions." I can't press the button to allow or deny the connection.

On the warnings it points to the following two files:

    C:Windows\System32\DIOR4F45105216
    C:Windows\System32\RSSB.exe

I am also getting a windows popup that states that:

    Windows cannot find "Windows\System32\mpreg.exe"

I have completed all the steps in the READ & RUN ME FIRST link and will be attaching 3 of the files that they said to attach. I will attach the other 3 in another thread.

    Thanks for your help

Here are the other 3 attachments reqested in the READ @ RUN ME FIRST thread.
I had to zip the bitdefender file because it was too large to load previously.

    Thanks again

Please do keep all communtications and logs in the same thread as they will get split up and thus only leading to having someone mention to run the logs again, as this area of the forum as you'll understand is very busy. Your threads can disapear to page 5 in no time, which is a good thing as the guys who assist in malware go from the oldest thread first, so bumping will yes put you on page 1 of the forum but sadly to the back of the work queue.

Hold tight someone will be with you when time allows.

Re: Personal Firewall problem - outgoing connection

Well some how you had managed to slip past our radar. Sorry about that.
Halo has informed us of this fact. So let's see if we can get you going. I will analyze all of your logs, but the first thing I need you to do is go back and run CounterSpy again and this time have it fix everything that it finds. You chose to ignore everything last time and that defeats the purpose of running the scan. After running it again and allowing it to fix all the problems, please attach a new log from CounterSpy.

Also here are a few other things you need to do to get your Sun Java and Spyware Blaster versions updated.

Uninstall the below old versions of software:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 2
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 4
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 9
Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_03
SpywareBlaster v3.4 <-- very old outdated version

Then install the current version of FireFox from: Mozilla Firefox

Then install the curren version of Spyware Blaster from: SpyWare Blaster After installing, click Download Latest Protection Updates, Check for Updates, and then Enable All Protection, then exit.

Okay after doing what I have listed in message # 4. Continue with the below.

    • Click on Start, then Run ... type services.msc into the box that opens up, and press 'OK'.
    • On the page that opens, scroll down to Print Spooler Service
    • then right click the entry, select Properties and press Stop Service.
    • When it shows that it is stopped, next please set the Start-up Type to 'Disabled'.
    • Now repeat the above to Stop and Disable the below two Services (if you do not find them or get any errors, just continue):
      • Windows Network Latency Controller
      • Application State Service
    • Click OK until you get back to Windows.
    • Next, run HJT, but instead of scanning, click on the None of the above, just start the program button at the bottom of the choices.
    • At the lower right, click on the Config button
    • Then click the Misc tools button
    • Select Delete an NT Service
    • Copy/paste rtaiy2o3qoya into the box that opens, and press OK
    • If you receive any error messages just ignore them and continue.
    • Now repeat the above to delete the below two Services (if you do not find them or get any errors, just continue):
      • nlc
      • AppSvc
    • Now exit HJT but do not reboot when it tells you it needs to. We will do that further down after running HJT again to fix some other items.

Continue by downloading a tool we will need - Pocket KillBox

Save it to its own folder somewhere that you will be able to locate it later.

Please run HijackThis and click on the Open the Misc Tools Section button on the open page. Then select Open process manager on the left-hand side. Look for the following process (or processes) and one at a time kill them by selecting it and then
click Kill process. Then click yes.

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\dior4f45105216.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\rssb.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\dior4f45105216.exe

After killing all the above processes, click Back. Then please click Scan and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer,SearchURL = about:blank
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = :0

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.

Now run Pocket Killbox by doubleclicking on killbox.exe
Choose Tools > Delete Temp Files and click Delete Selected Temp Files.
Then after it deletes the files click the Exit (Save Settings) button.
NOTE: Pocket Killbox will only list the added files it is able to find on the system. So when you do the below, if some files do
not show in the list after pasting them in, just continue.

    Select:
    • Delete on Reboot
    • then Click on the All Files button.
    • Please copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after
      highlighting, right-click and choose copy):

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\apsvc.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\dior4f45105216.exe
    c:\windows\system32\f3PSSavr.scr
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\mlsdf8h667134.exe

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\rssb.exe
    c:\windows\system32\sdkhz32.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\tmbs.exe
    • Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose Paste from Clipboard.
    • Click the red-and-white Delete File button. Click Yes at the Delete on Reboot prompt.
If you receive a PendingFileRenameOperations prompt, just click OK to continue (But please let me know if you receive this message!).

If Killbox does not reboot just reboot your PC yourself.

After reboot locate the below folder and delete if found:
    c:\program files\common files\Download
    c:\program files\whInstall
    C:\found.000

Please tell me what is in the below folder created on Nov 25th.
    C:\4885465d0948884c43

Now attach the below new logs and tell me how the above steps went.

    1. GetRunKey
    2. ShowNew
    3. HJT

Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Reminder Note: Once we have determined you are malware free you will need to disable System Restore, reboot, and re-enable system
restore per step 1 of the READ & RUN ME. This only applies to if using WinXP or WinMe.

I was able to complete most of the items you requested. I uninstalled the old Java and spyblaster files and loaded Mozilla and the new spyblaster. I also reran counterspy and fixed the items it found.

The 3 items I worked on under services.msc were already stopped. I changed all 3 to disabled from automatic.

Under Hjt I could not find the following items to kill (all other items killed):

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\dior4f45105216.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\rssb.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\dior4f45105216.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [dior4f45105216] C:\WINDOWS\system32\dior4f45105216.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [rssb] C:\WINDOWS\system32\rssb.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [dior4f45105216] C:\WINDOWS\system32\dior4f45105216.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [rssb] C:\WINDOWS\system32\rssb.exe

I had no problem adding the new registry key item you requested.

I did everything related to Pocket Pillbox without any problems.

I did not get a PendingFileRenameOperations prompt.

I did not find the following files to delete:
    c:\program files\common files\Download
    c:\program files\whInstall
    C:\found.000

The folder C:\4885465d0948884c43 contained the following file: msxml4-KB927978-enu.log which I will attach below.

I will also attach the other files you requested.

I think the computer is improving. I am still getting the Personal Firewall popup that I mentioned below but I'm not getting the message - Windows cannot find "Windows\System32\mpreg.exe" anymore.

    Thanks for your help.

Here is the counterspy attachment also. The file in folder C:\4885465d0948884c43 - msxml4-KB927978-enu.log was too large to attach. Do you want to see it? If so I will zip it.

Some of the problems you said you could not find mutated to different names. That is why you did not find exactly what I posted. After this set of fixes make sure you DO NOT reboot anymore unless I tell you to reboot. The problems may be mutating at reboot.

I can slightly understand you now having CounterSpy fix the below two items (although I would fix them):
    Weatherbug
    CasinoOnNet

However you had CounterSpy ignore the below items and they must be fixed!!!! Scan again and fix them.
    My Way Speedbar
    MyWebSearch Toolbar

Make sure viewing of hidden files is enabled (per the tutorial).
If you do not find this Exact service name that I give below, look at a current HJT log and find a service we a strange random name in paranthesis like the (myxeuacpytm8m) that was in your last log and stop and delete it.
    • Click OK until you get back to Windows.
    • Next, run HJT, but instead of scanning, click on the None of the above, just start the program button at the bottom of the choices.
    • At the lower right, click on the Config button
    • Then click the Misc tools button
    • Select Delete an NT Service
    • Copy/paste myxeuacpytm8m into the box that opens, and press OK
    • If you receive any error messages just ignore them and continue.
    • Now exit HJT but do not reboot when it tells you it needs to. We will do that further down after running HJT again to fix some other items.
Run HijackThis and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    F2 - REG:system.ini: UserInit=C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe,C:\WINDOWS\system32\mpreg.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [C47FAFC9] C:\WINDOWS\system32\cjnr4r43111940.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [C47FAFC9] C:\WINDOWS\system32\cjnr4r43111940.exe

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.
Boot into safe mode and use Windows Explorer to delete:
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\cjnr4r43111940.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\mpreg.exe

    Now run Ccleaner.
    Now reboot in normal mode

Now attach the below new logs and tell me how the above steps went.

    1. GetRunKey
    2. ShowNew
    3. HJT

Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

REMEMBER DO NOT REBOOT OR POWER DOWN YOUR PC NOW. Wait for my next reply.

Reminder Note: Once we have determined you are malware free you will need to disable System Restore, reboot, and re-enable system restore per step 1 of the READ & RUN ME. This only applies to if using WinXP or WinMe.

The computer is acting better. I did not get the Personal FireWall popup on the last reboot that you asked me to perform. It still runs a little slower than it used to but it is definitely better. I ran Counterspy again and deleted weatherbug, casinoonnet, my way speedbar and mywebsearch toolbar.

I was able to stop and disable Print Spooler Service.

I was able to remove with HJT the following:
    myxeuacpytm8m
    F2 - REG:system.ini: UserInit=C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe,C:\WINDOWS\system32\mpreg.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [C47FAFC9] C:\WINDOWS\system32\cjnr4r43111940.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [C47FAFC9] C:\WINDOWS\system32\cjnr4r43111940.exe

I also deleted in safemode: C:\WINDOWS\system32\cjnr4r43111940.exe
    I couldn't find C:\WINDOWS\system32\mpreg.exe.

I ran Ccleaner and am now attaching your requested files.

    Thanks

How long ago are you comparing too???? Do you really remember? Are you comparing to before or after Trend Micro Internet Security had already been installed.

What about all the othe items you have installed and running (Juniper, MTV Networks, DigStream, DigService). Do you need all these? Do you really use and need all the toolbars?

I will give you a few more tweaks below which will help!

First, we are done with the CounterSpy trial, so uninstall it now!

You should use HJT to fix the below unnecessary startups:
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
    O4 - Global Startup: Adobe Reader Speed Launch.lnk = C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Reader\reader_sl.exe

Then decide for yourself whether you really need the below items to always run at startup. Do a little Google research on them so you know what they are and then figure out whether you need them are not. Most often things like this don't need to load at startup and you can just run them when you need them and not always have them running which is a totally waste:
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [DVDLauncher] "C:\Program Files\CyberLink\PowerDVD\DVDLauncher.exe"
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MMTray] C:\Program Files\Musicmatch\Musicmatch Jukebox\mm_tray.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [DIGStream] C:\Program Files\DIGStream\digstream.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [DIGServices] C:\Program Files\ESPNRunTime\DIGServices.exe /brand=ESPN /priority=0 /poll=24
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [DellSupport] "C:\Program Files\Dell Support\DSAgnt.exe" /startup

    Your logs were clean!

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below
      • Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    2. If we used ComboFix you can delete the ComboFix.exe file and associated C:\combofix.txt log that was created.
    3. If we user SDFix you can delete all the SDFix related files and folders from your Desktop or whereever you installed it.
    4. If we used VundoFix, you can delete the VundoFix.exe file and the C:\VundoFix Backups folder and C:\vundofix.txt log that was created.
    5. If we had your run FixWareOut, you can delete the Fixwareout.exe file and the C:\fixwareout folder.
    6. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    7. You can delete the ShowNew.Zip and GetRunkey.Zip files and the files that you extracted from the ZIP files. You can also delete the C:\newfiles.txt and C:\runkeys.txt logs that were created
    8. If you are running Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • go back to step 8 of the READ & RUN ME to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    9. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

I will comply with your latest post. However, I just got a warning from CounterSpy as follows:

A Winlogon Userinit Startup Program Requires Approval
A program trying to enable itself to startup when Windows loads has been detected.

    Name: C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe, C:
    WINDOWS\system32\mpreg.exe

I blocked it. But the message came back later.

I would like your opinion on this before I uninstall CounterSpy.

I asked you to delete this file back in message number 8 and you said you could not find it. Are you sure the you followed the instructions in step 2 of the READ & RUN ME. Go back & double check that you set everything as requested. Then boot into safe mode and look for this file again and delete it if found. Let me know the results.

Also attach a new HJT log.

  13. batmantrunks

In normal boot mode I checked again on the hidden files in normal mode and it was set properly to show all the hidden files, folders, extensions, and operating system folders. I then rebooted to safe mode. I did note that when in safe mode the viewing of hidden files and folders was no longer allowed. I switched it to allow viewing of the hidden folders, extensions, and operating system folders.

I searched for the file mpreg.exe and could not find it in Windows\system32 or for that matter anywhere on my computer. I did find the file userinit.exe which was mentioned in my last post also. Should I delete that file from the system32 directory in safe mode? I have not done so yet.

NO! If you delete userinit.exe, you will no longer be able to log into your PC and you will be in big trouble trying to recover from this.

Are you still having any problems? Did you uninstall CounterSpy? If not, please uninstall it and then reboot. After reboot, attach new logs from ShowNew and HJT.

I uninstalled counterSpy and am attaching HJT and Showme logs. The computer seems to be running OK. I am not experiencing any popup issues anymore.

    Thanks for your help.

    That F2 line is back.

    Fix the below with HJT:
    F2 - REG:system.ini: UserInit=C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe,C:\WINDOWS\system32\mpreg.exe

Then do another quick scan with HJT. Is this line gone? If yes, then reboot your PC. Does this line come back? If the line is coming back, can you locate the mpreg.exe file.

  17. batmantrunks

    batmantrunks Private E-2

I ran hjt and fixed the line you referred to in your prior post. I then ran hjt again and it didn't come back. I rebooted and reran hjt and have attached the log. I didn't see the mpreg file anywhere on the log. Hopefully that means we are done.
