Personalizing with custom graphics...

While we are touching on the subject of graphics, I recently tried some software that I really liked, but I seemed to have some problems, and wasn't sure if this was something that was common with this software.

I am sure that anyone using Windows software is familiar with the Stardock WinCustomize website, and the Windowblinds Programming software? Well, I tried it and was really impressed with the custom look of the interface, and liked the idea of being able to give my system any look that I felt reflected my personal taste.

The first time I installed it, a couple of programs, my backup drive system, and the WindowBlinds interface display itself, would not display right. The background was one size, and the foreground with the buttons on it was another.

I uninstalled it, and because I installed Bootskin, WindowBlinds, and IconPackager all at once, I reinstalled them one at a time, (about two days apart so I could see if any of the other programming was messed up), to see which had screwed up the other programming. Strangely, none of the software seemed to be affected by any of it.

However, a few days later, I went to the Federal Court website to download some documents for filing, and I downloaded them to my desktop, and opened them there on the desktop.

When I finished with them, I deleted them all, and dumped the recycling bin. When I rebooted they all appeared back on the desktop. After several deletes, and several reboots, I came to the comclusion that something was wrong. My first thought was Malicious software.

I decided to go to my backup software, and restore to an earlier date, and when I brought up the software, there were no restore points there, an impossible situation to occurr when the software is working right.

that confirmed to me that it must be some bug or virus. I went to my next level of backup, and rewrote my harddrive with the system as it was a few days before, and then did a restore point from that day that took me back to before the WindowBlinds software was installed.

Even though I downloaded files from the same website after, I have never been able to find any indication of bugs or viruses that were ever on my system, and I keep my Malware religiously updated. I shouldn't have been able to get any known virus or bug without a warning.

I have never reinstalled the WindowBlinds software scince, and don't really know if that was the problem or not. Has anyone ever had this kind of a horror story from using the Stardock software. I really would like to have more control over how my system looks, but not if this is what I have to deal with.

I never did get an answer to this one. Does anyone know if this kind of thing has happened to anyone else? I admit it I like using this stuff to make my system more personal, and I hate the fact that it seems to be a problem to use.

I would like to believe that it was something like a bug or virus, but my Malware software did not find anything. In fact if this wasn't the result of gliches in the WindowBlinds software, then I don't know what caused the system to malfuction.

    Anyone got any insights?

Ha, who say's this is too long to read. I just thought that you guys were afraid to say anything bad about software that you push on your appearance section.

Has to be someone who has special access to disappear this way. :p
