Petra Majdic

I'm sure most of you have heard about this.

This woman is an inspiration to the world.
A real testament to the determination of some of these Athlete's and the spirit and will of the human race.

I mentioned it in the Olympics thread but I think it's worthy of it's own thread and she is more than worthy of world wide recognition.

The article I posted says 4 broken ribs, acording to CTV this evening it turned out to be 5 broken ribs.

For those of you who don't want to read the article, in short....

She fell/crashed in training for the Classic Sprint and broke 5 ribs and punctured her lung.
On virtually no form of pain relief due to Olympic rules about Drugs obviously, she not only completed her event but won Bronze.
She is going to be awarded the Slovenian version of the Medal Of Honor and she most definitely deserves it.

Watching TV earlier with a Doctor explaining exactly what was going on in her body just had me wondering what kind of human being is she, I've dealt with a lot of pain and continued what I was doing but I don't think I could do what she did, her event requires you to move your upper body a LOT and breath as hard as you can breath.

This woman is phenominal. I cannot think of strong enough words to describe what she has done.

In agreement!! Just hope she didn't incur any permament damage. I had a broken rib once, hurt like hell just to chuckle, can't imagine how she could have done this!

 

It was also mentioned that she had a collapsed lung but I'm sure it was reinflated by race time. Ya, quite the trooper and perhaps has no pain receptors!:eek

 

Oh she was feeling it, I watched her finish and she was running on pure adrenaline.
She's been hospitalized since the race and is out for the season.
