I just had to put my 15 yr old cat to sleep today.

My 11 yr old daughter insisted on coming with me. She held my cat on the way to the vet's...in tears the whole time. But she kept my cat calm and at peace. I have never had to put an animal down before. When you have loved them for 15 years, it is a horrible horrible decision to have to make. Next week she was going to share her birthday with my daughter.

Just now I just got an email from a boxer breeder I have been in contact with telling me that her dog is for sure pregnant with puppies and we should be getting one at the end of October. It couldn't have come at a better time.

There is no point to this post other than to thank my pet for the unequivocal love she has given to me an my kids. For those that say that cats don't give love....you never knew my cat.

Laura, I am very sorry for your loss and know nothing I can say will make it better, the only comfort you have is that you made the right decision because of your love, you gave her a good life, she knew she was loved. That is more than a lot of animals or even humans have in their life, her soul is at rest now.

So sorry Laura. That is just the worst. We have a cat going on 14 I look all the time to make sure
she's still breathing like you do when you have a new baby. Your daughter was very brave and strong to be able to help.
Getting a new pet will surely ease the pain.
Again my heart goes out to you, cats are a source of love for sure.

you have my most sincere sympathy Laura we have a cat (only 8 year old) but she is a family member she sleeps on the bed with me every night and we don't know how we would cope in the same situation(no smiley not appropriate)

So sorry for your loss Laura, I know exactly how you feel. Several years ago I had to put my 17 yr old dog to sleep. Not an easy decision by any means, but was the best for her.
And I think any pet you give love to will give it back X 3 :)

Giving a beloved pet a gentle end is the hard part of the life bargin you make with your critters. It's not often you can buy/aquire unconditional love, but pets come as close as you can get.

I mourn your loss with you.

Pets are wonderful companions, they love us unconditionally and are always there when we need a little pick me up. I know that when our dogs go it will not be easy. They do become part of the family and we mourn them as we would a human family member. My sincerest condolences and best wishes for the new addition to come.

Amen to that. I remember years ago I received a little kitten as a pick-me-up gift from my mother. I loved little Misty to tears, but she was very sick and had fleas, so my mother secretly had her put to sleep. A couple of years ago I learned the truth, and I am still grateful for it. Misty meant a great deal to me, more than any other pet I've ever had, and to learn what happened when I was better able to take it is a real comfort to me. I've never forgotten her or my mother's kindness in those days, and I can relate to the kind of pain a pet's loss can bring. But we need never lose the memories.

Thanks again for all the kind words.

There are few things in life as pure as the love of a pet.
