Photos too dark. Snow with brightening

    Using Windows 7 System and Gimp Photo editing system. The white balance scripts don't work, I am not getting the dialog boxes that the tutorials mention. If get the picture light, then all the colors have snow and the picture is grainy. Anyone have suggestions or is the picture just too bad?
