Piggybacking Ext Hd's

Hi,

I have 3 ext hard drives that are firewired and 4 ext hard drives that are connected to my pc with USB 2.0 cables and I have no more open ports. I just purchased another ex hd that has USB 2.0 cables. I read somewhere that connections of external hard drives can be piggy-backed. Is it possible for me to piggyback the new ext hd to one of the others? If so, how do I do it?

Just get a Usb Hub/Splitter...they are typically reasonably priced!!

Thanks fogvalcox . . . I checked into them and found that some have power adapters and some don't. Would I need one with a power adapter for an external hd?

 

I found several of them pretty cheap at eBay with a power cable so I bid on one of them and will probably get it since he has hundreds of them. Thanks again

Just a suggestion, check out cooldrives.com - they have plenty of multiple bay drive cases, might help you cut down on extra ports and cables a bit better.

All of my ext hd's are in cases already . . . I just have no open ports available.

Just making a suggestion, thinking maybe you could consolidate or plan ahead using something like a 4 bay case using 1 port , instead of adding another external case(4), cables(4), and power supplies(4)... keep it in mind. I myself have the 4 bay truswap case and can 'eject' any drive and put another in.. I need an 8 bay I guess..lol.

 

I understand and thanks for the suggestion. It's a really good idea and I wish I'd known it earlier. As it is, I have 8 ex hd's in cases already and I'm hoping that I'll never have to buy another one . . . but I said that after I bought the first one, lol. It something I'll keep in mind, though.
