    Greetings.

Wondering if I should replace my 2.6MHz Celeron with a 2.4MHz P4 I picked up as a spare.

I found another thread that seemed to say 'yes' (http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=121482), but the reason given was due to an inefficient mobo. I don't know if that's a general rule, then, or mobo specific.

    Any advice appreciated.

Generally speaking, a Celeron CPU is a Pentium with a lobotomy. It doesn't have as much on-board cache.

Thanks. But does the larger cache more than make up for teh faster Celeron speed (2.6 v. 2.4 MHz)?
Oops - just noticed I put PIII in teh subject line. Should be P4.

    I have a 2.66GHz P4 that's yours if you want it.

but I'd go for the P4.

    Thankyou for replies.
The P4 seems to outdo a slightly faster Celeron, from what I can tell from that link.
Thanks for the offer Core2Conroe, but I suspect we're not in teh same country.
