Here's a site with a lot of info on Peltiers. There is a link for manufacturers sites, with prices and products.

    http://www.peltier-info.com/

You will find that the cooling benefits are not enough to offset the power consumption. There are configurations that will cool a CPU, but you would need a separate 12V power supply, as most power supplies don't have enough reserve capacity to run it.

And, as Mudshot said, if it does fail, your chip fries.

    Go for water its "cool"

Serious at least if it fails you get some time for the chip to heat up slowly by the time its critical you can set you mb to turn off at a given temp.

May or may not save it but the theory is there.

Price is comparable and power not an issue, sound level less than a heatsink fan - - - - what can go wrong

£200 for the kit, very very very easy to fit, you just need good strong nerves.

    And a largish case

    But its protecting

    $500 video card
    $400 CPU
    $400 Chipset

Anyway A peltier is around the same money and only does the CPU

You do the math, water wins

If you want to go with liquid cooling, and you want it cheap, it's not gonna happen but, you can get a nice water cooled case with temp lcd's on the top for a pretty decent price at: http://xoxide.com/koolpc.html also if you want to keep your case you can get a liquid kit of your choice here: http://xoxide.com/watcoolkit.html browse the site, I'm sure you can find all the stuff you will need for liquid cooling they even have some nice modding stuff here, I'm a little what you could call broke, otherwise I myself would have some of these nice toys :D
    Well, good luck mEcroneo

    just build your own.
    buy one of these
    http://dangerden.com/mall/Blocks/rbx.asp $52

now find an inline pump with 1/2 inch fittings, similar to these
    http://www.discountpumps.biz/inline_pumps.htm $39

Now, goto your local autoparts store and buy a heater core, with the same 1/2 inch fittings, should cost you around $30.

Now get some 1/2 inch hose and some hose clamps, about $15.

Now, you don't need a big resovoir, because this is going to be an inline system, not a submersible one. You can make you own resovoir out of plexiglass (I've done it, pain in the ass) Or, you could simply modify an existing container, much easier, but doesn't look as cool. Basicaly you simply need a cylinder that has two 1/2" fittings, spaced about a 1/2 an inch apart. This needs to go above your radiator and pump, this way all the air bubbles in the system will go to it, and it also makes it easier to fill.

You'll end up with something like the picture that I've attached. I'll post the pictures of the homemade external system that I built out of plexiglass tomorrow. You could buil;t something similar for cheap. I'll also post pictures of my home made waterblock construction if I can still find them. In case you want to build your own waterblock.

Is it EZ to make your own water block out of a small heatsink ??

trust me on this one, spend the $50 on a good waterblock. I made my own, twice, it's not worth the effort.
