Does anyone have any idea why a computer on a home LAN would not be able to ping anything but 127.0.0.1 but still have connectivity to the internet?
It's wired to an ethernet port on a combo DSL modem/router. Running Win2K.

No. Thing only thing I get a reply from is the loopback 127.0.0.1
But I can get onto the internet.

sorry about that. got a little anxious.

ipconfig looks good. all the info is the same as the computer upstairs that can ping except for ip address of course.

sorry. not at home right now so I can't run the all command right now. But the info all looks good on the regular ipconfig command.

yes. but it isn't wired to the router like the other. The one that can ping has a linksys wireless-G ethernet card installed. The other is a linksys connected by cable.

I'm trying to fix the ping issue hoping that it will resolve the reason my 2 computers can't talk to each other. Someone told me that I'll never get them to talk to each other if I can't get the one to ping out. Thanks for the help though. I appreciate it. :)

It would be helpfull if you could paste the outcome of you "ipconfig/all" command from both PC's, how are you setup on your router, DHCP, DNS,, etc.
