I'm unsure if this is the right forum for this, but I have received an email from my daughter's hotmail account with the subject "Check it out". The email consisted of a link to a gambling site. The registration page asks for email address and password. I phoned her and she'd given this info and I assume the site got her contact list and my address. I told her to change her password to start with. Will this site know her new password because they have the old one, and could this be linked to identity theft. I have the link if you want to see it. I don't know if I should post it here.
    Thanks,
    Simon.

The only way they could have the password is if she used the same password for her account there as she did with her email address. If it's a trusted site then it's ok they shouldn't bother anything. If you have changed the password for the email account you should be fine. The best advice I can give to you is, if you don't know who the sender is, delete it. If it turns out it was someone you know you'll find out later. It's better to be safe than it is to be sorry so be aware of these type emails as spam is really high today.

    What was the link?

She did use the same password, silly girl. I"m sure they got my address from her contact list. She scanned for virus and malware and came up clean. here's the link that came to me. http://playbingolive.com/traffic/taf.asp?friend=Cassie She knows how to deal with suspicious emails but had a "blonde moment" according to her.

It appears to be a legit site, however I wouldnt recommend using the same passwords and such just to be safe.

I wouldn't worry too much about it, just so you will feel better about it I would change the password to the email account.
