I was just thinking about trying to play the sims 2 without the disc. Now to go about doing this i would have to make a duplicate cd image on the computer.... but how would i get around the copy protection... or could someone guide me through the steps of how to do it? I have two computers at home and i was just trying to see how get just one of my computers to play it without the dics in. If someone could help... that would be the bomb.

Funny, i believe it's cd, because when i got the game it came with 4 cd's to install... Yet it's not that big of a game... But i guess the A.I. isn't bad... Also it is version 1.

have you got a virtual CD/DVD mounting device? eg. Alcohol120% or Daemon tools? to duplicate a CD image?

I've got a brother and we usually have the same problem as you do. we need the game to work on 2 different computers, to do this we usually go to :fart and look in the PC game index for the game concerned. then we download either a fixed .exe file and replace the original .exe file (eg. sims2.exe) or you can download a mountable image file.

    tell me how you're going.

No, but i was looking into more and more and saw the alcohol 120... which sounds ok, but it sounds easier just getting a patch to use so we don't have to duplicate the image. But i appreciate it! Thanks!

When you buy the game, you purchase a license to install and play the game on one computer at a time. It is not legal to circumvent the copy protection and install the game on multiple computers. Which, from reading your original post, seems to be your intention. If I am wrong, please correct me. There are programs out there for the purpose of creating legitimate backups of your original instillation CD/DVDs in case a disc gets damaged/lost. However, the legality of this has been disputed back and forth and is kind of a gray area.

It is possible to use a virtual drive to hold an image of the original disc that is stored on your hard drive. You would be within legal limits to do this as long as you legitimately purchased the game and had the game installed on one system.

The use of cracked/hacked/fixed .exe files, however, is illegal and the practice is not tolerated at Major Geeks.

Then how do they expect people to play over the LAN, for example; what do 2 teenagers in one household do to play a game over the LAN? buy the game twice, or what?

Yes buy the game twice. Some older games had built in provisions for this, can't name any off the top my head. But yes you play for one copy for one person to play.

that sucks, anywhere I can make a complaint? I don't know anyone that buys a game twice just to play over the LAN. and what about LAN parties? buy 20 copies of a CD?

No you go to a lan party and buy one copy for your self, each person pays for there own copy, this is nothing new and amazing.

that would be one expensive LAN party, what a rip-off.

    adios

LAN parties assume that everyone coming has their own software, as well as hardware. Its only a rip off iif the cost is floated by one individual.

I have an itching feeling that someone is going to post something on the shady and illegal side, so Im going to lock this.
