I have windows xp pro. So Media player 10. I also have a JVC video camera that records in .mod, Media player will not play back the files, says im missing a codec. Anyone know what codec I need and where is a safe place to Download one.

I am not looking to convert the files just have them play on my PC. eveywhere I have researched it seems to always want me to convert the file

VLC player should have no problem playing the files.

If you are committed to WMP then have you tried just renaming the file to xxxx.mpg? If so do you get audio or video in Windows media player? The reason I ask about the video is the files are using mpeg2 video codec which is hard to find as an individual download. The audio is AC3 which is easy to get.
