Help recover old programs!

Hi There,

I really dont know much about computers, except that mine crashed a while ago and wiped everthing from my laptop. Absolutely everything even programmes that came pre-installed on it e.g power dvd, samsung recovery solution and loads more.
My whole business was on it and I lost every file, and the backup centre did not work (or more likely I did it wrong and I think i pressed something wrong and the laptop restored itself from c or d drive? i think it said?)

Anyway I searched and in a folder on the c drive- I eventually found a file called windows.old. It has all of my documents and files on it which was obviously great, however I dont know how to reinstall the programmes, like microsoft office, i originally installed it from a friends cd and i dont have it anymore and really dont fancy spending £100 on another copy.

If anyone can help or know of a programme I can download that can help me restore deleted/corrupted programmes it would be much appreciated!

You don't need MS office. Get the free www.openoffice.org that can read & write MSO files. I use it in place of MSO.

Good thing Windows keeps all your previous files in c:\windows.old. You can copy and paste your folder from c:\windows.old\Documents and Settings\<username> to \Documents and Settings\<username>.

I don't know how to restore the previously installed programs, but you should have done a repair install instead. It will keep your previous programs & personal files.
