Please Advise on Speedfan Reports

Hello,

Gateway DX430 with an Intel Core 2 6420 processor 4 GB ram system would reboot from time to time, and the fan would race very high. I dusted out the case, found a lot of dust on the fans, board, etc. After dusting, system seemed to work much better.

I installed Speedfan 4.4.3 on the system, and from cold boot, Speedfan reported that the GPU temp is 60C, ICH 78C, MCH 99C. There are 2 Motherboard temp readings. The first is 37C and the second is 49C.

I am assuming that the 1st 3 temps listed are way too high. If so, what would you recommend? Is it a motherboard problem or would replacing fans be better?

Wait. Was just looking. It has an Intel DG965 OT Motherboard. Looks like the top 2 anchors of the heatsink on the Mobo are not secured. Can you tell me how to secure those anchors? The bottom 2 hold it in place, but the top two are not holding it.

Any help would be appreciated.

 

OK, not a perfect solution, but was able to secure the mobo heatsink a little better.

GPU dropped slightly to 57
ICH dropped slightly to 74
MCH dropped to 69

core 1 & 2 temps at 26, 28 respectively. cpu die at 40

 

Speedfan is a good program, but like many 3rd party hardware monitors, it does not always connect the right sensor to label. I prefer CoreTemp for newer Intel and AMD64 CPUs, or RealTemp for Intels. But even so, I use Everest to verify the temperatures (as it is able to match sensor with label correctly), then edit the label in the monitoring program, if necessary.

Note your GPU temps are fine. GPUs run hotter than CPUs so no worries there. But your ICH and MCH (formally called southbridge and northbridge) are chipset components and for me, they are pretty warm, suggesting you might look at better front to back air flow through the case.
