Please can someone help me get back thumbnail previews for mp4's (Win7)

Hi all,

I would be very grateful if someone could suggest anything to get thumbnail previews back for .mp4 video files. The files are opening & playing fine with wmp so I guess the file association is ok, it's just that I'm not getting the thumbs in folder views or if an mp4 is on the desktop or anywhere.

I posted the question on 'sevenforums' and got a reply linking me to a registry key/fix that is supposed to restore all default settings for an individual file type association in the registry, it didnt work and no one wants to reply further it seems.

I'm running win 7 home premium 32 bit, no other probs or errors, all other video files are displaying thumbs (avi, wmv etc).

The only thing i can think of that made this change is my recent trying of PC Tools Registry Mechanic, I think it might have gone too deep into the reg' or something, I have since uninstalled it and will stick to CCleaner from now as it doesnt seem to go so deep.

Its not a big deal but I do like having thumbs working properly.

I know this is a really old thread but just in case you're still having trouble, you can try this:

Download icaros _v2.2.3.exe.

Once you download it, make sure it's deactivated, then in the section that says enter optional file types type: ;.mp4

Then activate and it should display your mp4 thumbnails again. That goes for any video file type that isn't working. You would go in that section and add new file types and activate them all.
