Please check logs for computer 2. MGTools won't run.

I have our other computer up earlier in the queue. Now the second is having bursts of slowness and high CPU usage that are unusual for it. It is generally a slow computer with low RAM, but this seems to be new behavior. When I open Task Manager, everything returns to normal, and I can't see what caused the high CPU. We have also noticed that when we get notification of new emails in Outlook Express, they don't always appear, and they cannot be found in any other email folder, including the SPAM folder.

I have followed your procedures. When I try to run MGTools from the root C drive, the black box pops up for only an instant and immediately disappears, so quickly that I can't even tell if anything is written in it. I don't get an error message. I have redownloaded MGTools, and the same problem occurs.

When re-enabling Panda Internet Security after doing the scans, I got a message that permanent email protection could not be loaded. I reloaded twice more before the message finally disappeared.

Thanks for looking at the logs just to be sure. Should I be concerned that MGTools will not run?

We very much appreciate your help.

Please click Start, Run, and enter cmd and click OK. This will open a command prompt window. Enter the below commands at the command prompt each followed by the enter key. The bold black are commands. The purple is merely informational.

cd \MGtools <-- this changes to the MGtools folder and the prompt should change to C:\MGtools>
ShowNew <-- this will try to run all another scan from MGtools. Tell me what error messages, if any, you see.
GetRunKey <-- this will try to run all one scan from MGtools. Tell me what error messages, if any, you see.

Thank you. Both scans worked, and I have uploaded the logs. Can you tell why I wasn't able to do it the normal way?

The computer seems to be running better now, although we still are getting alerts for emails that never appear. I am not sure if this is a malware issue or not; I hope I didn't waste your time.

Thank you very much for taking the time to help us.

Not seeing any malware in those logs. Let's do the below:

    1. Delete all files in the below bold folder except ones from the current date (Windows will not let you delete the files from the current day).
    2. Now navigate to C:\MGtools\analyse.exe and double click it to start the scan. If asked to agree to the license please do so, and you may have to click "yes" twice.

Do a "system scan only" and once it has completed, hit the "save log" button, store it in an easy to find location such as your desktop and attach the log into your next reply here.

    3. Download Dr.Web CureIt and save it to your desktop.
    • Doubleclick the cureit-.exe file and allow to run
    • If it prompts you about getting any updates, get the update and then rerun the cureit-beta.exe installation.
    • When it finishes you will have a green window with a Start and and Update selection. Click Start
    • the Express Scan of your PC window will come up. Click OK to scan main memory to detect infected process in memory.
    • If anything is found in memory, click the yes button when it asks you if you want to cure it. This is only a short scan.
    • You may see a popup window to Buy or get a discount on the program. Just click the X at the top right to close this popup. The scan will continue.
    • Once the short scan is completed, click the Custom Scan radio button. Then Select each of your hard disk drives (that is if you have more than one). A red dot shows which drives have been chosen.
    • Click the green arrow at the right under the Dr.Web logo, and the scan will start.
    • Click 'Yes to all' if it finds any problems and asks if you want to cure or move the file.
    • When the scan has finished, look if you can click next icon next to the files found:
      http://users.telenet.be/bluepatchy/miekiemoes/images/check.gif
    • If so, click it and then click the next icon right below and select Move incurable as you'll see in next image:
      http://users.telenet.be/bluepatchy/miekiemoes/images/move.gif
    • This will move it to the %userprofile%\DoctorWeb\quarantaine-folder if it can't be cured. (this in case if we need samples)
    • After selecting, in the Dr.Web CureIt menu on top, click file and choose save report list
    • Save the report to your desktop. The report will be called DrWeb.csv
    • Close Dr.Web Cureit.
    • Reboot your computer!! This is necessary because there could be files in use that will be moved or deleted during reboot.
    • After reboot, rename the DrWeb.csv file to DrWeb.txt so that it can be uploaded here and then attach the log from Dr.Web to your next reply together with the HJT log.

Hello again. I am very sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Thank you for still being here to help me.

Everything deleted in the temp folder except this one: f4d4851e8935eebef0f2eb52b3212bc9PSK_PLUGINS_3 12/11/09 10,816KB (Access is Denied)

It did appear to delete files from the current date. I hope I didn't mess this up. Since you said Windows would refuse to delete today's files automatically, I just highlighted everything, and everything went to recycle except the above file dated two days ago. They all (including the ones from today) are in the recycle bin now but I didn't empty it just in case I need to put the newer ones back.

I have attached the logs from the two new scans. I am not sure if this is actually malware or not, as the only thing CureIt found was in the MGTools folder. The computer seems to be running fine now, so I hope I did not put you through all this for nothing. I very much appreciate your easing my mind.

Thank you again very, very much!

    No problem :)

Now let's do the below to ease my mind as I am unsure of the following file which has a corresponding service running:

Please go to Jotti's malware scan
(If more than one file needs scanned they must be done separately and logs posted for each one)

    • Copy the file path in the below Code box:
      Code:
      c:\windows\system32\drivers\59896567.sys
      * At the upload site, click once inside the window next to Browse.
    • Press Ctrl+V on the keyboard (both at the same time) to paste the file path into the window.
    • Next click Submit file
    • Your file will possibly be entered into a queue which normally takes less than a minute to clear.
    • This will perform a scan across multiple different virus scanning engines.
    • Important: Wait for all of the scanning engines to complete.
    • Once the scan is finished, Copy and then Paste the link in the address bar into your next reply.

Here is the link to the scan result. It didn't find anything.

I guess this means I am clean, right?

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly, and thanks for all your help and time. I will check back to see if you have any final advice for me, but I suspect we are finished? I can't tell you how much I appreciate this forum and your expertise.

    :wine Yes. All clean.

You can follow my final steps below, and you are more than welcome for the assistance.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below
      • Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    3. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures in step 3 the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
