I began having computer issues (more detail below) and luckily I came across this site. I have followed the Malware Removal instructions to a "T" and most of the scans have come up clean. I want to be sure before I toggle system restore that I have a clean point to start from - any help is greatly appreciated.

Background - Approximately 1 year ago, I stupidly paid to download SpyHunter. It kept coming up on SpyBot S&D as malicious, so I finally attempted to delete it last weekend - then everything went down hill. My internet randomly closes on its own, my symantec isn't working right, my Windows Messenger required that the firewall be disabled to run (never happened previously). Now I realize what SpyHunter was, and I wish I would have known proper procedure to delete before I tried to uninstall it.

I have attached the logs, please let me know if there is anything else that needs to be done. Thanks so much!

Your logs are clean ...though you need to install JAva:Java Runtime 6.

Clean out your temp folders and tell me exactly what problems you are having ( error messages, etc).

Thank you - about a week ago a popup came up that said I was missing important files for Windows to run and to please insert my installation disk. I clicked ignore, and now explorer just closes on me sporatically - I've had to retype this twice now because it just closes for no apparent reason. Oh and also of note, at the same time my scrolling function on my touchpad stopped working (I have a laptop and inbetween the right and left mouse buttons is a rocker button for scrolling), and also the volume hotkeys above the keyboard no longer display on screen when you adjust the volume. Not to mention the fact that all of a sudden Windows Messenger cannot sign in when my Symantec Firewall is up - that has never been an issue, and now I have to disable the firewall in order to sign in to Messenger. Thanks for any assistance you can provide - at least I know the logs are clean...

As far as system file ...go to start / run / type "sfc /scannow" without quotes and have your xp cd handy.

You need to go into the firewall settings and allow messenger to access the web.

Any other issues would be best addressed in the software section. :)
