So, though it may seems trite to some, this is really bothering me. Mostly because it just bothers me whenever my computer doesn't funtion as it should, because I know it's "sick".

So, I am not sure why but lately (for the past 3 days) I get a "buffer Overrun" error everytime I try to log in to certain websites. Like myspace, or even on some parts of this site.

    The error says exactly...

The header- Microsoft C++ Visual Runtime Library

    Buffer Overrun Detected!

    Program:C\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe

A buffer Overrun has been detected which has corrupted the program's internal state. The program cannot safely continue execution and must now be terminated.

It happens when I push the signin button, under any account. And it happens in my Firefox browser, I tried Flock, and Netscape and even IE.

I have searched and searched and tried and tried to fix it, to no avail. I can't even find a forum that addresses this specific problem.

I have a Windows XP installed. A Dell Inspiron 6000 with a 1.6 ghz processor, 1 gb of ram, a 80 gb hard drive. I had AVG free installed, until thier new release screwed me over, and I am now using AVG's download from Cnet.com whcih is called PC TOOLS anti-virus.
I've run it a few times in safe mode, and not in safe mode. I've run it's AVG anti-spyware, and Ad-Aware SE. Along with a slew of other things, like CWSHREDDER, and and online scan. My brains are maxed out, and I need help. PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!! THANKS!

Oh, and here is my hijackthis file if it helps....

    Edit: removed inline log

    Hi

To start with you still have Avast, AVG and this PCTools Antivirus installed, you will have to remove two of them as they will conflict, then follow the below guide and attach the logs so our malware experts can determine if your problems are malware related or just software.

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.
    • Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
    • Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
    • After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
    Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.

    • When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:
      • CounterSpy
      • AVG Antispyware log - ONLY IF NEEDED you were not able to run CounterSpy
      • Bitdefender - from step 6
      • Panda Scan - from step 6
      • runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
      • newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
      • HijackThis
NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!

YAY! Genius! Thank so much. I was having an issue uninstalling AVG. So I found a forum on that, and reinstalled another copy over the top of it. Then, I unintalled PC Anti-virus from Cnet and restarted and whalla!

Thanks VERY much! My OCD and Perfectionist won't let something, "Just be wrong" with my computer. I think it also fixed my Apoint.exe that stopped scrolling.

    Thanks!
