    Hi,

I am using my computer mainly to watch stock Market charts & those charts have lots of graphics on it.

So I need a really Huge monitor if possible.

But the cost of LCD/LED monitors go up exponentially higher after 24 inch size.

I can use 36 or even 42 inch monitor. The bigger the better.

LCD & Plasma TVs are much chaeper.

Can I use them as a monitor ? IF that is yes, why are computer monitors so much more expensive & what are the pros & cons of using computer monitor Vs TV as a monitor ?

Any & all ideas would be highly appreciated.

    Thank You.

The answer to your question is yes, you can use a LCD or Plasma TV as your monitor. they typically have an HDMI port, or at the very least, a VGA port for you to plug into a computer.

Thing you have to consider is, you get a big mamma jamma monitor like that, you are going to need a powerful video card. Probably nothing less than a full gig in terms of memory. ATI cards are highly recommended by myself.

Also, I used to work in tech support for Fidelity Investments for the active trader customers using their platform. I will be happy to entertain any followup questions on online trading and technical suggestions.

A second monitor (smaller than the one you mentioned), as opposed to one large monitor, might be a better, less expensive, solution. Or, did you mean the large monitor you mentioned would be a second monitor?

Thank You. Very Kind of you.

I have sent a detailed configuration of the system that I am purchasing via an e mail to you. I think you will be able to help better knowing all the details.

Thank You too. This is going to be my primary monitor. I did give a thought to having multimonitor system but my video card ( 1024MB NVIDIA® GeForce® GT220 ) would allow only 2 Monitors & I need either a minimum of 3 monitors or a Very Large monitor. This a new system that I am getting from Dell.

The kind of Stock software that I am using requires Larger Height monitor than a typical 24 inch wide screen monitor provides besides the larger length. So I need more space both vertically & horizontally. If I go for monitors bigger than 24 inch then price goes up exponentially. That is the reason one very large TV monitor would better serve the purpose if that is possible without giving up good resolution. I do need good resolution & I don't know if TV monitor would provide that.

Here is the configuration in case you have more suggestions.

    Intel® Core™ i7-870 processor (2.93GHz, 1333MHz FSB, 8MB Cache)
    Genuine Windows® 7 Ultimate 64bit (English)
    8GB (4X2GB) DDR3 SDRAM 1333MHz Memory
500GB SATA RAID 1 (Data Mirroring)
Dual Drives: 16x DVD+/-RW + BD and DVD/CD-RW Combo (BD reader and DVD/CD burner)
    1024MB NVIDIA® GeForce® GT220
Integrated high definition 7.1 channel audio
    Hauppauge(R) WinTV-HVR-1200 Hybrid Analog/Digital TV Tuner

Again I really appreciate all the help.

No, I am afraid that is not true. Power in a graphics card mean speed, not size. And you don't need speed to watch stock quotes. Note the resolution of 1080P (the best for TVs) means there are 1080 lines of vertical resolution. In order to maintain the 16:9 ration, the horizontal resolution must be 1920. And just about any entry level graphics card today can do that.
