    Hello,

Thank you in advance for any help you can provide. I have been overrun with popup ads etc that are relentless. I have followed the 7 steps you have laid out to do prior to submitting a hijackthis log. I have attached the txt files from Bitdefender, Panda Activescan, Counterspy, and Hijackthis.

    Thank you for your help.

I have noticed that all the popups that I have been getting have the words "redirect" in the address. Not sure if that helps or not but thought I'd mention it.

    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

Your Bitdefender log was not obtained using the instructions in step 6 and the result is that your log is not useful as it is only a summary. If the instructions in step 6 are not followed exactly as written, this is the end result.

Also you have installed HijackThis exactly where step 7 requests that it not be install. Please read the instructions again in step 7 and install HijackThis properly. Do this before continuing.

I have a question and one additional log to request before I can work up a fix.

Question: Is the below something you installed? My guess is no and that it is malware.
    C:\Program Files\Network\ipnetwork.exe

Let's get an installed programs list from HijackThis too!
    • Run HijackThis, click Open the Misc Tools section
    • Click Open Uninstall Manager
    • Click Save List (generates uninstall_list.txt)
    • Click Save, to save it to a file where you can find it.
    • Attach the uninstall_list.txt file to your next message.

Thank you for your quick reply. I ran BitDefender again and at the end of running it there are two options either "close" or "click here to export the scan report". After you close this window there is the option given:"click here to view the report" I went ahead and did both and attached both text files....I apologize I'm not the smartest when it comes to computers. Hopefully one of these is correct.

I then went ahead and uninstalled HIjackthis and reinstalled it according to the directions correctly and attached the logfile. I ahve also attached the uninstall.txt file you requested.

    The "ipnetwork.exe" isn't anything I installed.

I hope I did all of this correctly, if not I do apologize.

    Thanks again for any help.

Now copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixme.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to add into the registry.
Note: The below programs need to be updated to the current versions that are available!
Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2
    Mozilla Firefox (1.5)
    SpywareBlaster v3.4

Advanced Spyware Remover Free Edition used to be on a rogue antispyware tool list. It is no longer considered a rogue but it is not that useful and you already have better tools install. Thus I'm adding to a list of two items that you need to uninstall via Add/Remove programs.

    Uninstall the below two programs!
    Advanced Spyware Remover Free Edition
    Supreme Toolbar

Make sure viewing of hidden files is enabled (per the tutorial).

Run HijackThis and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = www.jsonline.com
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://hsremove.com/done.htm
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://www.supremetoolbar.com

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.
Boot into safe mode and use Windows Explorer to delete:
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\zmmf <--- the whole folder
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\tsa <--- the whole folder

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\97_Ventura4_4_0_3_7.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\bose.ico
    c:\counter.cab

If you get an error when deleting a file. Right click on the file and check to see if the read only attribute is checked. If it is, uncheck it and try again. Other wise open Task Manager and kill the process if running then delete the file.

Now if running Win XP goto c:\windows\Prefetch and delete all files in this folder.
Now run Ccleaner (installed while running the READ ME FIRST).

Now we need to Reset Web Settings:
    1. If you have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, goto step 2. If not, skip to step 3.
    2. Now right click on your desktop Internet Explorer icon and select Properties. Then click the Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK. Then skip step 3.
    3. If you do not have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, click Start, Control Panel (for some systems it may be Start, Settings, Control Panel), Internet Options, Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK.
Now reboot in normal mode and post a new HJT log.

Make sure you tell me how things are working now.

Reminder Note: Once we have determined you are malware free you will need to disable System Restore, reboot, and re-enable system restore per step 1 of the READ & RUN ME. This only applies to if using WinXP or WinMe.

Wow...thanks for taking the time to do all of this.

I completed the steps and seem to have no popups anymore!

    A few notes:

    1) When I clicked "fix" on HJT I received an error message, I attached it below as a text file.

    2) After exiting HJT and going into Windows Explorer to delete files in safe mode, some of the files were not there. They were:

    C:\Program Files\Common Files\tsa
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\windows\mc-110-12-0000122.exe
C:\Windows\system32\mdwmdmsp.exe (there was a .dll file of this present but not an .exe file)..I left the .dll file alone
    C:\Windows\System32\imasevt.exe
    C:\Windows\System32\Runner.dll
    C:\Windows\System32\EQMini.dll
    C:\counter.cab

I have attached my new HJT log.

    Thanks again for your help!

You're welcome. Your log is clean but you still need to do the below!

These are all mentioned in the link you will see at the end of this message.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to go back to step 1 of the READ & RUN ME to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points. Then reboot and enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.

After that, you should work thru the below link:
