please help ive no sound

I posted n i had no sound a while ago and didnt get any where is there any1 who could help? i recently had a problem with my pc, it would not start in normal mode so reinstalled windows and now my computer is fine but then i discovered when i wanted to listen to some music there was no sound which im sure must have been wiped when i reinstalled windows and when i go in sounds and devices it says there is no device found. i had realtek and i found it on my foxconn motherboard installation cd and tried to install it but it doest seem to work because theres still no sound it does say its in the add/remove programs list though.
does anyone no what i should do?

ive checked the master volume,

i have checked my sounds and devices in the list of things it doesnt mention realtek AC97 which it did before.

i dont no if i have a sound card i looked at the back of the tower and cant tell

ive right clicked my computer and on properties, clicked the hardware tab and in device manager.
the are question marks next to other devices, the devices are,
lexmark 1200 series which didnt seem to install properly and now wont work
PCI simple communications controller

X1200 series

 

Usually when a device will not work properly, its a faulty, or, missing driver, as you have seen.
The best way to solve it is normally, to uninstall the driver, by going to the device in Devices, and clicking on the device, , then double click, the item to get to properties, then uninstal driver, and close that device, then do the same with the rest.

I would start with
video controller VGA compatable
Then
PCI simple communications controller
Then
lexmark 1200 series
X1200 series

Try one at a time, and come back and let us know.

 

I meant to add, Shut down, and restart, and see if Windows will install them automatically, when it restarts.

 

hi, i did what you said and i have no question marks or exclamation marks anymore but i still dont have any sound. i got an error message sayin there is no sound device installed.
i have a cd with AC'97 on it but when i tried to install it before but it didnt work should i try it again?

 

If the cd is for your motherboard drivers, then put the cd in and instal from there.

 

Whe you instal the driver, you may not see, or, hear anything, unitil you restart, and windows looks for it. Either way come back and keep us posted.

 

i clicked to install and got a message saying error installing iKernel.exe0x800)
should i carry on with the installation process?

I notice that error occurs with some things when not signed in as administrator, but have not seen it with a sound driver.
Try this .
Go to control panel, add new hardware, click already connected hardware,click realteck ac97 audio, and go on from there.
Keep us posted.

This should find the on-board sound, and instal from windows driver cache.

 

hi, i tried what you said but still nothing i have also tried installing Realtek from the foxconn cd i have but when it gets to 80% it says it hasnt passed to be authentic and it installs AvRack my speakers are fine aswell as i have checked them
