please help... .lnk files

Hello,
I am at a loss as to what to do....all the files/programs on my computer now end with .lnk The only thing that will work is Internet Explorer. I have searched and found that there are numerous files to download which will correct this problem.....however I can download, but not open or run the download. I do not know what else to do....does any one have a suggestion??

You do realise that's for Windows 95 and Windows 98?
